Dear colleagues! As of 1 June 2022, a project between the Lithuanian Optometric Association (LOA) and the Lithuanian Library for the Blind (LAB) will start for patients who are unable to read normally. The aim of the project is to offer an alternative reading source - ELVIS audio books - to patients who are unable to read normally due to temporary or irreversible visual impairment, with the help of optometrists. ELVIS stands for Electronic Publication Management Information System. About ELVIS | ELVIS (elvislab.lt)
An optometrist, in his/her practice, when confronted with a patient whose visual acuity (All) Binoculars with maximum correction and maximum patient effort from a distance of 40 cm is 0,4 or less, may issue a Certificate of Recommended Virtual Library ELVIS Access. The certificate form can be found in the website menu - Public association documents.
In the certificate, temporary visual impairment that can be assessed by an optometrist includes reciprocal cataract, for which a temporary 6-month ELVIS access is recommended until the patient undergoes cataract removal surgery in one eye.
The optometrist must record the issue and expiry date of the Certificate in the patient's Optometric Examination Record.
The certificate shall be issued to the patient, with which he/she shall contact the institutions administering the ELVIS at the contacts indicated in the certificate according to his/her place of residence or by registering online.
