Abstract

The main priority for optometrists as primary health care specialist is patient safety. Therefore, professional activities would be provided in accordance of the evidence-based contact lens practice and the best clinical practice guidelines. In this lecture we will overview communication based on patients needs and requirements, principles of anamnesis and clinical judgment in contact lens fitting.

Outlines of lecture are following: examination of the anterior segment, evidence-based contact lens material and lens modality selection correspond to anamnesis and anterior surface characteristics; overview of ocular surface and lens material / design influence to lens fit and lens movements; principles of the lens fitting evaluation, lens prescribing and aftercare.

Lecture will provide review of newest studies and evidences for soft, rigid and specialty contact lens fitting.

Purpose of the lecture is conducting specialist to critical thinking, proactive lens fitting to avoid contact lens future dropouts related to non-proper lens modality / material selection.

Slit lamp examination and visualisation with video samples.
The rules for apply of soft contact lens fitting.

Point 4 of the Order of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania No V-813 of 17 July 2018 "On the Approval of the New Revision of the Lithuanian Medical Standard MN 166:2018 "Optometrist":

 

4. The professional qualification of optometrist is obtained by completing a study programme in optometry in a group of first cycle university studies in health sciences. Until 1 January 2023, it shall also be deemed to have been obtained by graduating by 30 June 2020 from a study programme in optometry in the field of physical sciences in the group of physical sciences at university or in the field of physical sciences in the field of physics. As from 1 January 2023, it shall also be deemed to have been completed by persons who have completed a study programme in the field of physics in the group of physical sciences at university level or in the field of optometry in the field of physical sciences in the field of physical sciences by 30 June 2020, and who will have completed it by 1 January 2023:

4.1. a continuous course of at least 300 academic hours of professional development for optometrists at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University or the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences; or

4.2. any study programme in any group of fields of study in the health sciences, except for the study programme in optometry, and continuous courses of at least 150 academic hours of professional qualification development of an optometrist at the Faculty of Medicine of Vilnius University or the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences.
