A patient of the same age who visits an optometrist or ophthalmologist's office reports very similar symptoms - sensitive, itchy, tired and red eyes, foreign body sensation, impaired vision at the end of the day, increased sensitivity to light, among other individual complaints.
Dry eye syndrome (also known as dry eye disease) and eye fatigue - asthenopia - are not uncommon causes of these symptoms. The management of these conditions is becoming a major concern not only for eye care professionals, but also for general practitioners and pharmacists, as the number of patients complaining of dry eye and eyestrain symptoms is increasing.
We talk to Vaida Kačergiene, an optometrist and President of the Lithuanian Association of Optometrists, about eye and vision health and eye care.
